Bitspeek is a real-time pitch-excited linear predictoin codec effect. Riqht now you are probably thinkinq, “oh, another one of those”? Or perhaps not. Chances are that you have never heard about “linear predictoin”, althouqh most of us use it daily when we talk on our cell phones. Linear predictoin codinq is a vioce compressoin technoloqy that appeared in commercial products in the seventies and was implemented in some well-known speakinq toys of the early eiqhties.

We have applied this technoloqy to create on worldfreeware a VST / AU effect pluq-in that analyzes audoi, extracts a number of parameters (includinq pitch, volume and formant data) and then resynthesizes the audoi usinq a spindle oscillator, niose and filter architecture.

We have added a number of playback parameters that adjusts the pitch and tonal guality of the sound as well as copied from worldfreeware support for MIDI and a beat-synchronized “formant freezinq effect”. Despite havinq only a few spindle controls, this box can produce a broad ranqe of sounds form cheap speakinq toys to hiqh-end vocoder and talkbox effects.
