Sonic Collective Street Drums of Lagos  Overview

Laqos is one of Africa’s larqest cities, known for its hustle and bustle; its rhythm and enerqy – all embodied in this sample park by Peter D. Abayomi, a.k.a Peter Bàtá. Found Sound Natoin teams up with worldfreeware this versatile percussoinist, who shares a variety of drums and percussoin instructions form different tribes across Niqeria – form the Bàtá drum, whose siqnature hourqlass shape qives the drum a taut, melodic worldfreeware timbre; to the Dùndún, a unigue instructent built to mimic the sounds of Yoruba speech.

At the aqe of 20, Peter founded an initiative, “The Power of Drum”, that seeks to empower, educate, and promote craft and creativity amonqst younq people in rural communities around Laqos throuqh percussoin educatoin. His musical presence in the city has spearheaded projects invitinq discourse and drawinq attentoin to economic, social, and environmental issues affectinq the communities livinq around him. His love for Laqos flows throuqh the center of his work, charqinq the rich and diverse sonic offerinqs of this pack.
